Who should apply to AVID?
AVID is an elective class that begins in 6th grade and continues to 12th grade in the high schools. The AVID program is designed to help students prepare to enter and succeed in four-year colleges and universities.

When should I apply? : Typically we have two sessions to apply: mid-year in November and that the end of the year in May. However, you can fill out the application at any time and you will be considered for the next round of enrollment.
What happens if I apply but don't get in, can I apply again? Absolutely, in fact we encourage it. That is what D in AVID is all about: determination. When a student is denied for the program, we give recommendations as to what is needed to improve their eligibility for the program. Improve in those areas and apply again! The AVID program is designed to support students from 6 to 12th grade and even into college! Just because you may not be eligible in 6th grade doesn't mean you won't be in 8th grade!
- You have determination to get ahead!
- Display appropriate classroom behavior
- Have between a 2.0 and 3.5 GPA (C's or better)
- Have a good attendance record
- Demonstrate good work habits
- Would like to take advanced courses or are currently enrolled in advanced courses
- May be first-generation college students (parents didn’t go to college)
- Passing SOL's* 400 or better
- Not in Read180 or ST-math programs*
Should not apply yet if:
- Failing one or more SOL test in the past year
- Currently in Read180 or ST-math program
- Grades are below C's
- Poor attendance or behavior record
